Bringing quality African Arts to rural and new audiences in UK and Europe
AFRICA ODYSSEY: Ugandan band tour of Devon, 22nd June to 30th July 2008:
A presentation of the fantastic music of Uganda. Our dream is to create new sounds based on the rich traditions of Ugandan folk music. A selection from the many cultures that fill Uganda with excitingly rhythmical traditional music, from the royal kabaka court of the Baganda people, Basoga and many more, featuring dynamic, storytelling troubadours, 'rap' and lilting soul and dance music! Presenting the 'new' music, in which the traditional forms have been developed and popularised Please refer to our diary here:AFRICA ODYSSEY TOUR DIARY 2008

Description: We are an energetic complete professional African music trio from Uganda. Make not mistake about it, we will work to impress! Our aim is to share the African storytelling tradition, through our music, performances and workshops.
In the old days various ensembles of musicians were retained by the kabaka (king) to provide music at different times during the day and for state ceremonies and receptions, as well as travelling throughout the Kingdoms entertaining in villages. Flutes, lyres, harps, tube fiddles, xylophones, trumpets and drums provide the instrumental accompaniment to the singing, with its complex intonation structures.
Size: Comprised of a percussion section, a and a wide selection of other Ugandan and African wind and string instruments, the group showcases the music from different parts of Uganda (Africa) - fusing the songs, rhythms and dances of Africa with some European sounds in some cases.
The group is comprised of 3 players from different regions of Uganda– all united in a passion for Ugandan and African arts culture
Kinobe: Kinobe Herbert from Bugerere has been touring with musical groups throughout Africa and Europe since age 10 and has played alongside Youssou N'dour, Salif Keita, Angelique Kidjo, Toumani Diabate and Baaba Maal amongst many others. Kinobe also runs his own band, Soul Beat Africa and his debut acoustic album was released on the Multicultural Media / Rootstock label

Denis Kigongo: The name Kigongo (pronounced as Chigongo). Denis Kigongo from Busu, learnt to play drums and other instruments as a child and is a trained teacher, a youth worker, African Educator and musician, well-known and respected locally through his work in Devon schools.

Ouma: a maestro musician from Eastern Uganda, has developed his own style of playing acoustic guitar by combining traditional Ugandan rhythms & melodies with western contemporary vibes. He has earned credit as one of the notable contributors to African contemporary music and co-founded Soul Beat Africa with Kinobe giving African vibes to the people and leaving messages of joy and peace through world music.
Interactive performances: We always take an array of African instruments and invite our audience or members of the community to drum and play other instruments with us onstage several times throughout the show. We focus on interactive performances where we also get entire audiences up and dancing to live music.
That's why we call our shows 'Interactive' African Performances - everybody gets a chance to participate in the fun!
